Stirling Range Hike

The Stirling Range Ridge Walk is the premier hike in the Stirling Range National Park and is a 25 km (approximately) point-to-point hike on unmarked trail traversing the spine of the ridge from Ellen Peak to the summit of Bluff Knoll (or reverse) with around 5,500ft of elevation gain. This is a long, physically demanding and extremely rewarding challenge for hikers and has the reputation of being one of the toughest hikes in Australia.

Located in Western Australia’s Great Southern region, the Stirling Range National Park is a dramatic and remote mountain landscape just over 100km north of Albany. It is home to rugged peaks, sheer cliffs, and an extraordinary diversity of flora and fauna. A biodiversity hotspot, the park boasts over 1,500 plant species, including at least 87 that exist nowhere else on Earth.

The Stirling Range Ridge Walk is a true bucket-list challenge, covering over 5,500 feet of elevation gain across two gruelling days. Hikers will navigate jagged peaks, exposed ridgelines, and shifting weather conditions while spending a night camping under the stars on the ridge. The experience is both physically demanding and deeply rewarding, offering unparalleled views of the Stirling Ranges.

Meet the Man

behind the mission

This guided experience is the vision of Tom Smitheringale, an accomplished explorer and adventurer who has dedicated his life to pushing human limits. Tom is best known for his solo, unsupported expedition to the North Pole in 2010, a feat that only two people in history have accomplished. His extreme survival skills and deep respect for the wild are the foundation of South Peak, a company built on the belief that true growth comes from embracing the unknown.

Preparation

Upon booking your hike we will provide you with all the information and support to get you hike ready. How to train, what gear to bring, what food to eat and how to get there. Hiking can bring a lot of joy and adventure, but it's important to adequately prepare to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.

Training

We will provide a 12-week strength and conditioning program to ensure all participants have the fitness required to complete the hike. Our programs consist of a combination of gym based sessions and weighted pack walks aimed to progressively load our Clients to ensure they can handle the terrain and pack weight requirements of the hike.

Fitness Assessment

To be eligible to join South Peak for a crossing of the Stirling Range Ridge Walk clients must complete a Physical Fitness Assessment to ensure all participants meet the strict medical and physical standards required to complete the hike safely.
